New Students
What to expect?
In the Ashtanga Yoga method, each student learns the sequence of postures step by step and individually, respecting the possibilities of their body-mind and their breathing capacity. Only after being prepared for the posture or sequence taught by the teacher does the practitioner receive further guidance on how to perform the next step (posture or sequence). We will never force any student to do a posture they are not yet ready for. Each day that they come to practice, we will methodically continue to work on and develop what was taught the day before. It is this way of teaching that we call “Mysore Style Practice”.
Within the Mysore room, the teaching and instructions are individual, respecting each person's process and only advancing in the practice of asanas as the student's body and breath are ready.
Put another way, our Mysore classes are not group-guided. Each student must enter the room between the pre-established times (see timetable). The instructors in the room will give personalized instructions and help each one individually. Each practitioner is at a different point in their practice, starting and finishing at different times. What unites everyone in a Mysore room is the harmony created by the sound of the breath where beginners and advanced students come together to perform their sadhana (spiritual practice).
